That’s a line from the song Sabotage by the Beastie Boys. (If you’re upset about the word fuck, get a life, we’ve discussed this already.)
The line also sums up my morning.
I had a crazy dream last night that I won’t bore you with because I’ve been told one too many times that I shouldn’t bore people with my dreams.
However, I drive my kids to school and I don’t care if I bore them, so they got to hear it.
I told them I think I should start seeing a therapist. Not because I’m not able to cope, but because the dream was a lot to unpack and I should probably have a professional look into it.
In the conversation I mentioned, “I don’t care who’s mad at me at this point.”
My youngest scoffed in the backseat saying, “At this point.”
I questioned his meaning and he said, “You’ve never cared if someone is mad at you.”
I said, “Well, I guess you’re right… I never try to hurt anyone, so if I did anything to make someone mad, it’s for a good reason. If I did do something to make someone mad and I was wrong, I always apologize for it. So you’re right, I don’t care if someone is mad at me.”
Therapy session done ✔️
After I dropped them off, Sabotage went on and it felt quite apropos. A song from the nineties to remind me exactly who I am.
I don’t need therapy; I have my kids and my playlist.
