I bet you thought this post was going to be me railing against Trump, right?
Well haha to the trolls who like to mock us “liberal extremists” — it’s not. Run along and find someone else to make fun of so you can feel better about your small, pathetic life. So unfulfilling that it brings you great pleasure to spend your entire day on the internet sharing boring memes proving that you have made Trump your God instead of coming to the realization of who he truly is.
In your God’s words… sad. Very sad.
This post isn’t for you. This is for the people who think like me.
If you’ve read my blog before, you know what that means. But it’s also for the people I know who voted for Trump who – and I know my fellow “liberal extremists” don’t want to hear this – are not bad people.
Not only are they “not bad”, but some are actually people that I love the most in this world. People I know FOR A FACT are kind, generous, loving – something that – yes, I’m gonna say it – our liberal/democrat echo-chamber doesn’t want us to believe.
My favorite news guy is Tony Dokoupil on CBS morning news, along with Nate Burleson and my favorite news gal, Gayle King.
Tony did a brilliant segment before Election Day. He sat down in a typical living room with two couples; one who only listened and watched “the left” media, and one who only listened to “the right.”
By the end of the segment, after being shown what the other couples had been seeing on the news, both came to the conclusion that they could understand the others’ anger based on what they had been spoon fed.
It was very enlightened and it made me love Tony even more since he was basically exposing that the company who pays him was one of the culprits. That is integrity.
After Trump was named president-elect, I really wanted to sit down with someone I loved and trusted to ask why they voted for him. Luckily I got that opportunity.
We discussed the abortion issues, and I’ll admit that their answer was a gut-punch because it is one of the major reasons I despise Trump. However, I did not let my emotions get the best of me, I continued to listen. Although I didn’t agree, I was able to see the other person’s point of view.
Then we talked about the economy. They see it one way, I see it another. But I really can understand why they voted for Trump from their point of view.
My point is, not everyone who doesn’t think like you is evil. Has it ever crossed your mind that maybe all the media that you have indulged in for the past 10 years is only telling you everything you want to hear? To keep you mad at the other side? Anger is passion, it’s drama, and it keeps you tuned in and the network ratings high.
Stephen Colbert (who I loathe, by the way. I don’t think I’ve ever heard him say anything remotely funny) will act like he’s appalled! APPALLED!! that Trump was elected president. But if you look closely, you’ll see him salivating at the thought of his viewership numbers going up…up…up… because the Trump jokes are ripe for the picking for hacks like him.
As I told my kids – we want to hope for the best, look for the good, and lead with love. I don’t want another 4 years of hate and obsession over politics and I don’t want it for them either.
When I was growing up, there was the occasional, “Reagan sucks”, “Bush sucks”, “Clinton gets sucked” talk, but there wasn’t this CONSTANT obsession over politics. I’m so bored of it. I’m just going to take a wait-and-see stance and not worry about the “what-ifs” that the media has told me.
There’s nothing we can do about it anyway. I’m not the type of imbecile who would go and storm the capitol and besides, I can’t find my Viking helmet or face paint anywhere!
So I will pray, and wait, and see.
Maybe I should start investing more wisely since Trump could end social security and we’ll all be eating cat food like someone I know LOVES to tell me all the time.
And I do hope Trump continues his streak of keeping us out of wars, as so many of his supporters like to remind us. I mean, the fact that he was so loose with our top secret documents and is best buds with Putin is a little disconcerting, but again, let’s just wait and see. And pray.
I know this is all very serious and a lot of people are hurting right now. I know I may sound flippant. But I firmly believe in not worrying until there is something to be worried about, otherwise, it’s just a waste of precious time.
Do you want to spend your time like the losers on social media who post all day long just to get a rise out of their enemies? Or do you want to live and enjoy your life?
Put your phone down, turn off the TV and go outside and have a conversation with a real person; someone who you have no idea what their political affiliation is. I promise it will change your attitude about the state of the world – even if it’s just a distraction from what is really going on.
