Yesterday I read an excerpt about how George Harrison reacted to John Lennon’s death.

He believed John was going to be ok because the body is just a suit you take off when you die, the soul is eternal. This is a Hindu belief called Atman.

I thought, “Wow, that’s what I believe too!” It’s what I tell my kids when they ask what I think happens when we die.

I started reading more about Hinduism, and I gotta be honest, compared to all the other religions I’ve been exposed to in my life, I wish I knew more about this one sooner.

Something that really struck me was this:

Respect for other religions: Some Hindus believe that all revealed religions are essentially correct and may even see other religious figures as manifestations of their own gods. 

I love this idea of inclusiveness over ego.

Let’s be real, besides Buddhism, are there any religions that aren’t like, “We’re the best! We’re the only true religion! Everyone else is going to Hell! Let’s go to war about this!”?

I like the, “Hey, maybe we don’t know everything. Maybe you’re a god too!”

Another thing I’ve always believed in without knowing it was rooted in religion is Karma (Hinduism’s universal law of cause and effect, where a person’s actions determine their present and future lives.)

I think I may be onto something here.

Ok, granted, I literally just read ai generated responses about all this, so I’m in no way an expert and I’m not about to run off to Varanasi, but I really do think George was on the right track.

For me, there was always something about, “The quiet Beatle” that caught my attention. I’ve always felt drawn to him, even before my kids got me into The Beatles. My son even shares George’s birthday … maybe it’s him reincarnated! Maybe it was George’s Dharma (a person’s duty or the righteous path in life, an emphasis on good conduct and morality) that drew me to him.

Maybe I’ve finally found a religion that fits. I’m going to keep reading about it to find out.

But so far I have spotted one big problem… most Hindus are vegetarian because they believe ALL life is sacred, especially cows, and killing one is a sin.

I really really like hamburgers.
