Hope.

‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all …

– Emily Dickenson

In my last blog post I wrote an encouraging message for all those who want to come out, but choose not to because of the homophobic, close-minded views of others.

I was hopeful that they could do it because the world is changing for the better. I extolled on how people were becoming more accepting of others who want to live their lives in ways that are happy and fulfilling to them.

Then the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and Clarence Thomas said we should consider the same for other laws – one of them being gay marriage.

If you read my blog regularly, you probably think I’m about to drop a bunch of F bombs and call Clarence Thomas a hypocritical, sexually harassing, disgusting member of the Supreme Court and also a supreme piece of shit, but no, I’m not going to do that. (See what I did there? 😉) But this post is actually another one about hope.

The first day it was overturned, I made it my business to stay away from everyone. I feared that I’d rip someone’s head off if they dared bring up the ruling and act like it was a good thing.

No matter how many times I took deep breaths and told myself to relax, I’d find myself unwittingly clenching my teeth. My jaw was killing me by the end of the day and into the next. This little habit is why I have a pretty extreme case of TMJ. My jaw clicks so loudly that once, when I opened up for my dentist, the sound startled her. But I digress…

When I got home, poor PJ experienced my wrath because he had the nerve to interrupt me while I was talking — also while being a man.

I didn’t even plop down on the couch next to him like I usually do. I had to lie down on the couch that faces my bird feeder because it calms me. I tried my hardest not to be nasty to my sons. I went in the complete opposite direction where I found myself putting on a weird, sing-songy voice that must have had them thinking, “What’s going on? Why is she being so nice?”

And these are my people! My allies! But holy shit, I haven’t been this angry in a loonnggg time.

However … the next day, when I had time to process it all, I actually felt very hopeful.

This is how I see it:

Biden won. If you didn’t think it before, I implore you to watch the hearings. Trump’s own beloved daughter Ivanka said it. There was no steal. Please, please, please, I beg you to watch it. Don’t listen to what others are saying, see it for yourself. Other than the fact that it is so scary that this mad man was running our country, it’s actually fascinating.

Ok, so there’s that. The people who voted for Biden.

Next, you have Clarence “I put pubies on Coke cans” Thomas who couldn’t leave well-enough alone for the day, and chose to pour salt in the wound by saying: they should also “reconsider its past rulings codifying rights to contraception access, same-sex relationships and same-sex marriage.”

What a dumb shit.

You’ve already pissed off like, 98% of the American women by making them unequal to men in the eyes of United States law, because as the late, great Ruth Bader Ginsburg said:

The state controlling a woman would mean denying her full autonomy and full equality.

But now, the less-than-honorable judge Clarence Thomas, ON THE SAME DAY, comes for gay marriage and access to contraceptives? Who the hell paid off this steaming pile of dog shit?

If I were a conspiracy theorist, I’d think he was TRYING to get major amounts of people to vote against the Republican Party in the next election.

In one fell swoop, this pervert, who sexually harassed Anita Hill by talking to her about, among other things, a porn star named Long Dong Silver (I’m not kidding), managed to offend all women who want control over their own bodies, and the entire gay community.

This is who is making life-altering decisions for our country. Lord help us all.

Unfortunately, he’ll probably be there until the day he dies. That’s how Supreme Court judging works. Which is insane to me, but whatever.

So what do we do? WE VOTE!

This is a midterm election year. On Tuesday, November 8, 2022, all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 seats in the Senate will be contested. Thirty-nine state and territorial gubernatorial and numerous other state and local elections will also be contested.

If you don’t agree with what just happened to a law that was on the books, protecting women (your mothers, your sisters, your daughters, your wives, your friends) for FIFTY YEARS, this is when you need to vote. Get these people OUT! Even though Biden is our President, it’s the parties mentioned above who propose these things and then eventually turn them over to the Supreme Court to decide.

Let’s recap:

So we hopefully have all the people who originally voted for Biden. Yes, gas prices are ridiculous but that will work itself out, it always has in the past and it will now too. What will be there FOREVER if we don’t do something about it, is WOMEN NOT BEING EQUAL TO MEN IN THE EYES OF THE LAW.

One of my favorite shows is Shark Tank. Do you ever wonder why the entrepreneurs and the sharks haggle so much over how much of a percentage they will own in a company? It’s because of decision-making power.

Before Friday, women and men were 50/50 in equality because of the Roe v. Wade ruling. Now we’re less than 50% because other people can decide what we (women) do with our bodies. We no longer have the power of autonomy. It’s not really about “killing babies” for them, it’s about power. What will they decide for us next? It’s scary to think about.

Ok so let’s back up again. We now have really pissed off women. The entire LGBTQ+ community should be pissed off. The black community should be pissed off, actually ALL minorities should be pissed off. (I hope) these groups have been voting for their best interests all along, and will vote again in November to procure us not ending up back in the dark ages.

But I’m begging, BEGGING, anyone who stated that when Hillary Clinton ran against Trump in 2016, that they weren’t going to vote because they didn’t like either candidate … or because it didn’t matter … or because their vote doesn’t count anyway … or because it’s all rigged, etc. etc. – to forget all those notions and PLEASE VOTE in November!

I joke around a lot, but I’m being very serious when I say that this ruling has me shaken over our future in America … but I still have hope.

VOTE!
