Please, I beg you … unless you’re in the 1%, stop saying people shouldn’t be paid the living wage.
Do you even know what a living wage is? Here’s the definition:
The living wage is the amount of income determined to provide a decent standard of living. It should pay for the cost of living in any location. It should also be adjusted to compensate for inflation. The purpose of a living wage is to make sure that all full-time workers have enough money to live above the federal poverty level.
If you are one of the people saying moronic things like:
I guess we should pay McDonald’s workers the same as brain surgeons! …
… first of all, I need and love those McDonald’s workers for delivering me the most delicious food on the planet.
You know what I don’t need? More MFers like Ray Kroc who took advantage of the McDonald brothers, stole their ideas and screwed them over.
When you defend these corporations by saying they shouldn’t pay the living wage to their workers, you’re basically rooting for the Krocs of the world and shitting on the McDonald bros., and yes, you are shitting on yourself.
Because I’d hate to break it to you, but you are a part of the people who want to be paid the living wage. You are not a part of the people doing the paying out. Being against the living wage is being against yourself.
Now don’t get me wrong … in the words of Austin Richard Post:
🎶 Gotdamn I love paper like I’m Michael Scott 🎶…
but no one is taking that paper out of my pocket when I show a little compassion for the people working their tails off behind a hot stove and dealing with shitty customers (read: YOU) all day who just want to be paid enough to keep themselves above poverty level.
Yeah yeah yeah, you heard it somewhere that it does affect you. Oh shut up. No it doesn’t. The rich just want to stay rich. This is how they do it; by preying on workers who are just trying to keep their heads above water, while they stay afloat on their yachts sipping champagne and laughing at fools like you for defending it.
They also rely on the dum-dums of America to defend their stingy ways and spread lies about how it hurts employment or whatever. Just stop. Unless you took home >$500,000 in earnings last year, you sound SO ignorant for defending it.
Have you ever hear of Stockholm Syndrome? It’s when emotional bonds are formed between captors and captives but those bonds are considered irrational because of the danger or risk endured by the victims. Saying that the rich should keep their money and not pay a fair wage when you are not the rich sounds like a good ol’ case of Stockholm Syndrome to me.
And even if it does affect you; like, say you own a business and have to pay your workers more – well, you remember what happened to Ebenezer Scrooge, right? Do you really want to be visited by ghosts telling you you’re a piece of shit? I didn’t think so.
The current minimum wage is $7.25 and hasn’t been raised in 10 years. (*edit – $7.25 in 19 states. It was raised in some states and Washington D.C. is currently at $15 as per laborlawcenter.com) Workers earn 18% less than their counterparts since it was last raised because the cost of living has gone up. How can you defend that??
Please. Just. Stop.
Thank you.
