A lot of people think immaturity at 44 is a bad thing, but my 8 & 10 year olds asked me last night why I like the cartoon Clarence so much.
I said, “Because it’s a sweet, funny, all-inclusive cartoon about a kid who comes from a non-“traditional” family and is friends with people of all walks of life and even loves his enemies. But as nice as he is, he can also appreciate a good burn and loves to have fun.”
My son said, “But usually adults don’t like cartoons because they’re not “mature”.
I said, “Am I mature?”
The biggest grins spread across their faces and they started giggling, “No.”
It was honestly the best feeling I had in a really long time.
I’m not saying you should act like a complete moron and neglect responsibilities, etc. but pick one thing that your kids really love and try to remember what it was like when you were a kid and try to really relate to them.
Make up silly songs or a secret handshake. Tell dumb jokes. Walk into a room as Cornholio. Act like a jackass.
It’s fun. They will love it and so will you.
