On April 29th PJ & I will be married for 15 years.
A lot of marriages end in divorce because in the beginning it’s new and exciting and you’re 2 crazy kids that do wild things together.
Then after a certain amount of time, the newness fades away, you settle into married life, have some kids… things are crazy but in a different, non-exciting way, and you want your old life back.
Good thing for me & PJ, we’ve always acted like an old, boring, married couple.
Picture it … Long Island, 2006...
We’re sitting in the bridal suite after a long day of getting dressed up, having an hour-long Catholic wedding mass (which prompted one of our groomsmen, Eric, to look into the video camera on the way back down the aisle and say, “short one” 🤣), then pictures, pictures, and more pictures.
When our wedding party left us to go to the cocktail hour, we were alone, waiting to make our grand entrance into the reception.
I’ve never doubted that PJ was the person I was supposed to spend the rest of my life with, but when I told him I wished I could get out of that dress, into my sweatpants, and be home on our couch – and he agreed with me – well, I still take that as confirmation that we were meant to be together forever.
Most brand-newlyweds would be pumped to get the party started, but we were sitting next to each other, slumped back into the couch, holding hands, and whining about how tired we were 😂
We weren’t total sticks in the mud for our reception – we ate and drank and danced and sang; but Teara always laughs when she tells me that at one point she glanced over at us during dinner and it looked like we were about to fall asleep face-first into our plates.
15 years later and nothing has changed. There’s no place in the world I’d rather be than next to PJ, in my sweatpants, on my couch, watching NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, Jeopardy! and The Wheel.
Like, literally No. Where. Else. In. The. Entire. World.
It’s my favorite. He’s my favorite. Our life is my favorite. Cheers to 15 years 🥂
