I’m going to write something verrryyyy controversial right now. It’s not because I’m trying to be a hater – it’s for a greater purpose. You will see why later.
I am not a fan of Brené Brown 😬
So many of you are calling me a jealous, know-nothing moron right now, I know this.
It kind of goes along with my feelings about Trevor Noah in that, I didn’t do a ton of research on her but my initial thoughts were – hmmm first impressions are important and hers wasn’t all that great for me.
A while back I listened to the podcast interview she did with Professor Ibram X. Kendi called How To be an Anti-Racist.
I’m sure she is a talented thinker and writer to have the following she has, but that interview turned me off.
It sounded to me like she sat through the whole thing with her mouth agape, oohing and ahhing at every little thing he said like she was just dropped on this planet and never met a black person before. She acted like she needed him to tell her dumb white ass what to do in any sort of situation that involved a person of color.
Maybe some white people really do need that. I was annoyed. It was insulting to me and I feel like even Professor Kendi had an air of, ‘Ok lady calm down, I am just a person here’.
Anyway, I say all this to say, even though Brown has a cult following, there has to be people out there who feel like she’s not their cup of tea. Here’s the point I’m trying to make:
My Biff reads more than anyone I know. I’ve told you before that I’ve had to beg her to stop telling me about her books because it’s like when someone tells you about their dream – exciting for them, boring as shit for you.
She started “sneak” telling me about her books. She’d act as if she was sharing something that happened to her, but at the end reveal that she was talking about a book. She got me like 3 times before I became more astute to her little game.
The girl needs an outlet.
She wants to be the “anti-bandwagon” book reviewer. As in – she will tell you the honest, absolute truth about books instead of chasing the mobs of Brené Brown lovers. (She’s not a fan either.)
If I liked to read, I’d totally be here for this idea because I obviously love the “other” point of view. Plus Biff is one of the funniest people I know and it would shine through in her reviews.
Another example of a “bandwagon” she’s not into is Oprah’s book list. She told me allll about a book that had no capitalization and no punctuation.
im sorry but what
How is that even possible?? That’s just dumb. But I’m sure because it was on Oprah’s book list, people went nuts over it. Biff did not like it. She thinks Oprah’s books are too intellectual for her enjoyment.
Anyone else feel like this?
We live in such a pretentious, Emperor’s New Clothes society that I feel like nothing is real anymore. Everyone is too scared to say how they really feel because they’re afraid of being on the outside.
One of the things I love most about Teara is that while the world said The Shawshank Redemption was their favorite movie, she’s always proudly stood by Legally Blonde as her fave. (Holy shit, for the first time in my life I realized the title of that movie is a play on “legally blind” and I only realized it now because I first typed “blind” instead of “blonde” 😳)
Back to Biff. She wants to review fun book club contenders and give the low down on them.
Now, the last thing people need is another blog where some idiot opines to no one 🙋🏻♀️ but her blog would actually be about something … books.
I hope she goes ahead with it. She’d be doing a great service for voracious readers, and it would fulfill her need for telling me about the books she’s read 😴😴😴 Win/win 👍
Let me know if you’d be into something like this or if you already follow someone who does it already.
