Be a Ginsburg, not a Barrett.

Eleanor Roosevelt famously said, “Behind every great man is a great woman.”

There’s no denying that Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a dynamic woman, but not unlike what Eleanor said about Franklin, behind her greatness was actually a great man.

Whoa whoa whoa – stop the clock. A feminist icon like the Notorious RBG owes her success to A MAN?!

Yep. And she would say the same herself.

In the 1950s, as Ginsburg was paving her way to success, she couldn’t have done it without the support of her husband Martin. Unless of course, she wanted to choose between having a career or having a family. At the time, ‘having it all’ just didn’t happen.

She said, “In the course of a marriage, one accommodates the other. So, for example, when Marty was intent on becoming a partner in a New York law firm in five years, during that time, I was the major caretaker of our home and child. But when I started up the ACLU Women’s Rights Project, Marty realized how important that work was.”

Yesterday, President Trump selected Amy Coney Barrett to fill Ginsburg’s seat on the Supreme Court.

It would be a disservice to Barrett for me to say that her religion would cause her to go against the US Constitution, because I believe she is an intelligent professional who earned her way to her judicial position and would not abuse the law by catering to her own personal beliefs.

What bothers me is that the constitution was written in 1787 by a bunch of white Christian men who thought married women were not considered people under the law, and that their legal existence was bound up with their husband’s. To this day, women are still fighting for equal rights under the constitution.

Because of this fact, I think it’s safe to say that the document tends to favor the same beliefs that fall in line with Barrett’s religious ones – that women should be absolutely obedient to their husbands, and those who are not, should be shamed, shunned, and humiliated.

THAT is why her appointment is a conflict of interest.

What we need is another RBG-type who will continue to fight to defend the constitutional rights for ALL people. Because even though I know many who think it’s a great idea – NOT EVERYONE BELIEVES THAT MEN SHOULD MAKE ALL THE DECISIONS!!!

Lord help us. Especially us women 😭

Put on your hiking gear ladies, because we’re probably in for an even bigger uphill battle than the one we’ve been fighting already. (And just when we thought we were making progress.)

In the meantime, do yourself a favor – instead of finding (or staying) with a macho, chauvinistic, man that values you for your body, how well you cook, or if you’re willing to stay home and watch the kids while he ‘blows off steam’ with the guys, get yourself a man like Martin Ginsburg; someone who treats you like the worthy, amazing, intelligent, person you are.

Do not stand for being treated like a 2nd class citizen just because that’s who he needs you to be so he can feel good about himself.

Get yourself a man (if you even feel like you want one, lol) who makes you brag about him like this:

“Marty had a wonderful sense of humor. He thought that I must be pretty good because why would he decide that he wanted to spend his life with me? He always made me feel like I was better than I thought I was. He was so confident in his own ability that he never regarded me as any kind of threat.”

Be a Ginsburg, not a Barrett.
