to support a government that wants laws that make them feel less than equal.
I love too many black people to want a president who encourages racism by sharing videos of his supporters screaming “white power.”
I love too many women (myself included) to vote for a party that wants to take away our rights regarding our bodies or support a president who continuously degrades us.
I know many people who support Donald Trump. They love him, actually. And I love many of them. I love them so much that for a very long time I tried to see where they were coming from; see why they adored this man so much.
Some of things I’ve heard:
It’s because of the unemployment rate. Literally everyone I know who has mentioned this has the same job they held under Obama, or they are self-employed and would have the same business under any president. I’d like to imagine that they really care about the unemployment rate but hmmm I think it just sounds better than their previous reason, “He tells it like it is!”
Which leads me to the next thing I’ve heard:
He tells it like it is. You may be fooled into thinking he’s like the guys you grew up with, but the man literally shits on a golden toilet.
Now I’m not saying some people I know from New York wouldn’t install a golden toilet in their bathroom – they just can’t afford it. The difference is that Donald Trump can. He is not the same as you.
He tries to go the, “Hey look everyone, I’m your average, everyday, ordinary guy!” route like Sarah Palin did with her ‘Joe the Plumber’ spiel, but he never, ever was that guy.
He tries to act like he is by doing publicity stunts and fronting like he eats Taco Bell but he’s not. (Well he really may eat it because it’s delicious, but when he’s done, he shits on a golden toilet.)
He tells it like it is Part 2. In the beginning he mocked a disabled reporter. Cool. We all know how funny it is to make fun of the disabled. Or when he said Megyn Kelly had “blood coming out of wherever.” Awesome! Get her Don! We know what a great comeback that was! Who doesn’t like to tell a women she must be on the rag if she’s angry? Love it! Ooh ooh wait! What about when he said that thing about John McCain, you know:
“He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured, ok.”
BURN! He got him there! Granted this was coming from a man who received multiple deferments to avoid service, but that’s besides that point – he got him good! He told him like it is!!!!
However, 4 years later, even though it’s fucking spectacular when he says there are good people on both sides when referencing white supremacy, I feel like he’s getting a little weak in his ‘telling it like it is’ ways. His insults just aren’t as good anymore. I mean, I heard he was recently rambling on and on about water. Where’s his good old ‘telling it like it is’??
The economy. Please, scholars, tell me all you know about economics. And I’m not knocking you, I don’t know the ins and outs either. But let’s be real. It’s just another thing that sounds good or something you gleaned from an internet article. Come on … come onnnnn … tell the truth … I do it sometimes toooo … you’re safe here … you can confess.
*sidenote – I know some of you really are that smart to explain the ins and outs of economics to me. Please don’t 😴
He supports our police. All jokes aside on this one. Just like he uses good ol’ Americana as his pawn to play the public, he does the same with our police. He has done NOTHING to unite people. Pulling out a black person here and there or showcasing a black family during a rally to be all, “Look I have black supporters too!” is not good enough. And by doing nothing to help the racial divide and by actually saying the words “there are good people on both sides” about white supremacists, (that one’s so nice I had to mention it twice!), only endangers our police forces more.
I never wanted to offend my friends who support Trump but I can’t keep quiet anymore. I tried to understand, but I simply can’t.
My love for my friends and family who are disabled, non-white, non-christian, gay, etc. outweighs anything good that he may stand for – if there is anything.
If he has done something that you think is worth mentioning, please enlighten me. But I think everything I mentioned above is fact and can not be shot down as fake news. And to continue acting like I’m not bothered by all these things is a disservice to all my friends whose hearts are hurting under this presidency.
I’m just telling it like it is.
