I’m Petti and I won’t see you … At The Movies!

Last week we got Hulu. There were some shows I wanted to see on it, so as if we didn’t already watch enough TV and have enough channels, packages, what-have-you … we added it. We’re saving on gas during the quarantine, right??

Side note: Yes, we’re still quarantining. No, I don’t think it’s time to go do things I would rather not do anyway, thankyouverymuch.

The shows are: Mrs. America, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and The Handmaid’s Tale. We also stumbled upon the show Love Life with Anna Kendrick.

Here are my reviews – you can consider me your Siskel & Ebert rolled into one. Which, btw, they need to remake that show. I loved watching those two nerds duke it out over movies.

And if they do remake At the Movies, I don’t want to see some slick Mario Lopez and Ryan Seacrest-type duo who care more about their hair and pecs than the movies. I’d prefer they clone Quentin Tarantino and have him fight with himself over what’s good and what’s shit.

First up: Mrs. America

I had really high hopes for this one. For me it seemed to have everything. Feminist storylines, Cate Blanchett, Rose Byrne, Uzo Aduba, OMG TRACEY ULLMAN 😍😍😍😍

Guys, I tried. It fell FLAT for me. Maybe it’s one of those shows that you really need to get into, but after 3 episodes, it was still a snooze fest. I LOVE Rose Byrne AND Gloria Steinem (who she portrays), but I just couldn’t help feeling like Byrne was dressed up for a costume party as Steinem 😬

I’m going to have to give Mrs. America 2 thumbs down 👎👎

Next up: Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

Oh Always Sunny in Philadelphia … where have you been all my life? You are the puzzle piece I didn’t know I was missing. I am now complete.

It’s like Friends, Seinfeld, and Curb Your Enthusiasm all rolled into one with Charlie Day sprinkled on top 😍 I will pay an extra $13 dollars a month for the rest of my life just for you ☀️ ❤️

I give it 2 enthusiastic thumbs up 👍👍

Here we have: Love Life

This show wasn’t even on my radar. PJ pointed it out. Which is funny because he claims he can’t stand Anna Kendrick but yet he was the one pushing for this show 🤔🤔

Now, I’m proud to say that my husband sometimes takes a more feministic stance on topics than I do, but he’s definitely not one to choose “chick flick” type shows or movies.

He also does not choose shows based on what he thinks I’d like. In fact, when I’m into something and he’s not, I’ve come to realize that he deters me by saying there’s a show he wants to watch, and I just follow him blindly. The next thing I know, it’s 3 months later and I’m like “What ever happened to Last Man on Earth?” And he’s like, “Oh I think we started watching something else.” Btw, big ups to Will Forte, the most underrated comedic actor of our time 😍

Back to Love Life. Good stuff. It hits so many nerves for me and it’s comforting to know that other people have gone through the same sort of teenage/young adult angst and rejection that I thought I was only privy to.

I still can’t decide if PJ really has the hots for Kendrick or not. She’s cute as a button but can be VERY annoying. But then again, he likes me and he thinks I’m cute and very annoying – so yeah he’s probably in love.

I give Love Life 2 thumbs way up 👍👍

And finally we have: The MF-ing Handmaid’s Tale.

🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

My momma tried to warn me. She said, “Mmmnnn yulck I read the book. Yeah mmm I don’t want to watch that.

That description pretty much sums it up, but I’m glad I didn’t listen because it is SO GOOD.

However, I’d finally begun sleeping through the night without crazy-ass pandemic-induced dreams, and this show has brought them back with a vengeance.

And you know why? Because as outrageous as the storylines seem, they are eerily reminiscent to what some are trying to do to our society today. I highly recommend everyone watch this show and get a little scared and nervous because of it.

Plus the acting is superb, especially Elizabeth Moss who was on my favorite show of all time Mad Men.

I give it 2 Arthur Fonzarelli-worthy thumbs up 👍👍 aaaaaayyyyyyyy

Siskel & Ebert used to close the show with “I’m Siskel, and I’m Ebert, and we’ll see you At The Movies!”

Here’s my closing line:

I’m Petti and I won’t see you at the movies because I’m staying home on my couch watching HULU because believe it or not there’s still a damn pandemic going on and I hate being in a crowd of rude people who are talking and chewing popcorn in my ear when I’m trying to watch a movie anyway 😁 🎥 🍿
