Can we please stop saying The Shawshank Redemption is our favorite movie?

Even if it is. I love that movie. I’ve often put it on my list of favorite movies. But I do have to tell you that when I did, a little voice inside me said, “If I put Shawshank Redemption on this list, they’re going to think I’m smart and cultured…”

Now don’t get all mad and be all, ‘HOW DARE YOU! The Shawshank Redemption IS my favorite movie!!”

Who am I? Who cares what I think? Go shout it from the rooftops if you want. I’m just telling you that if I see it on your list, you’re getting an eye-roll from me because I’m projecting my own pretentiousness. If you enjoy seeing Tim Robbins get beat up and sexually assaulted in prison, you do you!

Let’s talk about the real best movies.

I’ve already dedicated an entire post to arguably the greatest movie of all time: Dirty Dancing.

But then we have, also mentioned here before, Old School – my favorite since 2003.

If you haven’t seen it in a while, you should take this down-time to revisit it. So much goodness. Although I do think they should have cast someone else in Ellen Pompeo’s role. I don’t know who (whom?), but she doesn’t quite fit.

Will Ferrell and everything he does in Old School is the absolute best, but let’s not forget about Vince Vaughn (earmuffs!) and Snoop Dogg making an appearance. Perfection! (Except for Ellen Pompeo, of course.)

Pineapple Express, although a bit long, has some of the funniest moments in cinematic history. James Franco and Seth Rogen are the funniest duo (in my humble opinion). If you didn’t see Pineapple Express but saw The Interview, just picture the scene where Franco keeps repeating, “They hate us ‘cause they ain’t us (or anus)” but picture them high. However, just like in Old School, the casting wasn’t great for the Rosie Perez role. Not that she’s supposed to be likable, but she annoys me so much in this movie.

Other great ones that would make me stop channel surfing and commit are as follows:

Clue, Heathers, Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill 1 & 2, Grease 1 & 2, Welcome to the Dollhouse, Big, National Lampoon’s Vacation (and only this one – sorry folks), Dazed and Confused, Friday, The Godfather 1 & 2 (2 is better), Step Brothers, Forest Gump, Beetlejuice, Stand By Me, The Lost Boys, Titanic, Bridesmaids, Superbad, Neighbors, Get Him to the Greek (mostly for the scene where Diddy is tripping out and feeling the furry wall. I cried laughing the first time I saw that), and ok fine, The Shawshank Redemption. It’s a great friggin movie.
